Right choice
So earlier this year, around springtime, the biggest “Pro/Con” list I was compiling was about whether I should move back to St. Louis for the summer, or to stay in Columbia. I believe I have some drafts saved of some posts dating even up to the first week of summer when I questioned my decision even after I moved to Columbia.
But now, I can say with full certainty that moving back to St. Louis would’ve been the biggest mistake. Before the summer started the only things I knew that I had equally crappy jobs in both locations, had to pay for my summer rent either way, and had few friends at each location.
However, my St. Louis friends have dwindled down to a mere 5 or so. And “friend” meaning someone who I’ll contact every couple weeks or so, if not face to face they text or calls every so often. However, while in Columbia I’m never quite conscious of this. But today I was back in St. Louis for a full 24 hours by myself and it made me realize how much I had let go of this life I was so unwillingly to leave last August. Or rather, how much others had grown apart from me. I have two friends in particular who I had been very close with these last few years and who I’ve actively called, texted, facebook and tweeted at who seemed to have dropped of the radar. Or my radar.
I try not to take offense but on days that I’m in St. Louis it makes everything painfully clear to me. Glad that this was not my summer choice.
To Do: [6-16-11]
- Work Invisible Children booth at summer orientation
- Print out job apps/resume
- Apply for at least 3 jobs (Kohls, Chipotle, Starbucks)
- Make more calls for internship
- Work
- Karoke
I only know who the first five tumblrs are… but I like this new feature.
I’m a regular somewhere!
After watching TV shows like Friends and How I Met Your Mother, everyone wishes they could be a “regular” somewhere. And two nights ago, I found out I was indeed a recognizable regular at one my favorite places in the Loop. Downside? The hookah bar. It’s not that bad, just kinda not the first place people want to be regulars at. The owner didn’t even ID me as I came in. As I started to hand him my license he said “Oh, I don’t need to see yours. I know you. Want strawberry again?”
And with that, I am a regular. I can cross that off the bucket list.
My current song addiction. The video is fun to watch too!

10 Things About Me
My high school friend, Julie, tagged me a while ago so here it goes…
- My favorite color is green. I love every shade but the garish yellowy lime green. Olive is my current favorite shade, as my TOMs show.
- I prefer walking barefoot. Yes, of course no one likes walking barefoot on rocks, so obviously not all surfaces. But I love the feeling of walking barefoot in the grass!
- I have an internship with a student environmental coalition in Missouri. Usually this is something big that I would explain in it’s own post, but it’s something that happened really fast recently. It’s on my “to blog” list.
- I live in Columbia, MO. I was born and raised in St. Louis, but decided to make the move after spending my freshman year at the University of Missouri. I love Columbia. It’s full of coffee houses, bars and great places to hike :)
- I am outdoorsy. If you asked any of my friends a couple years ago, they would probably would disagree with this statement. After going camping for the first time a couple summers ago, I fell in love. This year I went backpacking in the Smokey Mountains over spring break and had a blast!
- Whenever I have a major break-up, or feel that my life is in a rut, I change my hair. This all started with my first break up back my sophomore year in high school. I went a brownish-red. After break-up number two I went black. Right before college I did a purpley-brunette (Egyptian Plum). That was my favorite. After my most recent break-up I got bangs! I love my bangs and I think they are staying for a while. However, I’ve had my hair long for a while- considering getting a bob this summer!
- I love cats. Not much explanation needed.
- Queentazo. Here’s the explanation: It was my first email. Why? Tazo chai was my favorite drink at Starbucks and the cute boy I had a crush on in 6th grade suggested “queentazo” as my email name. So it stuck. However, for professional reasons, I’ve started changing my emails/twitter, etc to something more…normal.
- I watch a lot of guilty-pleasure television. My shows include: Gossip Girl, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Pretty Little Liars and Drop Dead Diva. However, I do watch some valid TV shows (Lost, Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, SNL and the Office).
- I h8 when ppl talk like this in theyre FB statuses. Its not kewl and it looks stoopid.
Goals continue…
So since I haven’t kept my New Year’s Resolution of blogging more, maybe I can make it a summer goal. However, I have been tweeting more (Follow me), so it is a form of blogging. But upon reading one of my friend’s blogs, I have been inspired to return to my tumblr. (She is a j-school student at the University of Missouri, the best journalism school in the country, so my blog will be nowhere NEAR as great as hers. But a girl can dream.)
So here I am tumblr. Ready to blog.
I’m glad they were both able to mock the ridiculousness of the celebration and correctly explain the true reasons for the excessive festivities…
A short To-Do list… for once:
-Manage to get a 75% or higher on Marcoecon exam
-Crash after
Fin.
Hahahhahahahahahah.
Truth. Hookah for 4 hours not to mention a couple of cigs with cute boy on a smoke break… oh finals.
